Giving back is at the heart of Pardee Homes' culture. Our employees, contractors and vendors contribute time and resources, too, to support the organizations and activities that can make a real difference in people's lives. We invite you to share in the satisfaction of being involved with these fine organizations—and of helping to keep our communities strong.
Job loss, domestic violence and other situations may create temporary homelessness, and it is this population that HomeAid seeks to serve. More than 100,000 homeless men, women and children have been served in HomeAid's 170 nationwide multi-unit homeless housing facilities.
In Long Beach, Calif., HomeAid is teaming up with the United States Veterans Initiative to build a prototype facility to enable recently discharged Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to return to productive lives after having suffered from Traumatic Brain Injury or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder during their service. Pardee Homes is serving as builder captain for the 10,000-square-foot facility.
Pardee Homes supports the HomeAid mission through participation in four regional chapters, fundraising, board service and donations, as well as shelter expansion projects. In 2007, Pardee Homes led a $1 million renovation for St. Jude's Ranch for Children in Las Vegas, which serves 50 children.
When is a playhouse more than just child's play? When it raises money for people trying to rebuild their lives. Time and time again, Pardee Homes' employees have put their skills to work for HomeAid's Project Playhouse fundraisers.
Playhouses built and donated by Pardee Homes have raised more than $500,000 for the transitionally homeless. The playhouses have also garnered national attention for HomeAid, and have been placed in the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., and also in Chicago, New York, Dallas, Las Vegas and throughout California.
Each year, The Shade Tree Shelter in Las Vegas provides shelter to thousands of women and children in crisis. At Pardee Homes, we believe everyone can be a part of the solution to homelessness, and that's why we make cash contributions, tied to home sales, to The Shade Tree Shelter each year. Pardee Homes' employees go the extra mile by holding a holiday clothing and gift drive and making sure Santa visits the shelter with food, gifts and a festive spirit.
In the colonias east of Tijuana, thousands of impoverished families live in conditions precarious to their health. Pardee Homes wants to change that. We have supported Project Mercy by joining other real estate-related individuals and companies in the annual Baja Challenge to build homes for deserving families in this area. The annual goal is to build 35-40 houses in 12 hours, with each team funding and building at least one home. Pardee Homes has contributed further by offering construction expertise to less-knowledgeable volunteers.
