Pardee Homes Earns National Green Building Award

Pardee Homes has earned a top award – Production Home Builder of the Year -- in the 2006 National Green Building Awards program. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) sponsors the competition as part of its efforts to promote environmentally responsible and resource-efficient construction methods known as Green Building.
“For nearly a decade we have been bringing more ‘green’ into our homes, and showing buyers the new home design they love can also be earth-friendly,” said Mike McGee, President and CEO of Pardee Homes.
Pardee previously earned the 2004 Green Project of the Year award from the National Green Building Conference, the only national conference targeted to Green Building for the residential building industry.
“Pardee Homes exemplifies our Green Building Award winners,” said Matt Belcher, Chairman of the Green Building Conference. “Their leadership is helping us mainstream green building, thus encouraging more homebuilders to ‘go green’ in their markets, which helps homebuilding and the earth.”
For the past year Larry Simon, senior architectural manager for Pardee in Southern Nevada, has been chairing the Green Building Partners Program working group for Southern Nevada Home Builders, using the NAHB guidelines in developing the local charter.
“Our goal is to exceed all local codes, while being sensitive to the cost to the buyer,” Simon said. Builders who implement green building techniques will receive certification by third party experts based on energy and water conservation, air filtration, and the use of renewable and recycled resources.
“The Green Building Partners program is a community effort that includes county and city governments, public utilities, production builders and custom builders,” Simon said.
Pardee has been a pioneer in green building in Southern Nevada, and was the first regional builder to commit to building only ENERGYSTAR® homes that can save homebuyers at least 30 percent in energy costs. Pardee’s innovative LIVINGSMART® program, which encompasses a comprehensive array of green building standards, plus multiple, user-friendly ways for buyers to expand their choices, is offered at several Pardee neighborhoods in Las Vegas.
LIVINGSMART® showcases earth-friendly and energy-saving living by offering environmentally sensitive features and options in the categories of EarthSmart™, EnergySmart™, HealthSmart™ and WaterSmart™.
Desert demonstration gardens in Pardee’s LIVINGSMART® communities of Vista Verde and Nevada Trails received first place honors in 2004 and 2005 respectively in Southern Nevada Water Authority landscaping competition.
“Earth-friendly systems and programs in our new homes represent a very important part of our value commitment to new homebuyers,” said Pardee Nevada Division President Klif Andrews.
Having built homes for more than 30,000 families in Southern Nevada since 1952, Pardee currently covers the Las Vegas Valley with 19 new home communities with a wide range of products and prices that attract first-time, move-up and luxury buyers.
