National Association of Home Builders Honors Multi-Regional Homebuilder at Green Building Conference



Pardee Homes has been named Green Building Corporate Advocate of the Year by The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).  The association honored the multi-regional homebuilder last night at the 12th Annual NAHB National Green Building Conference in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Green Advocate honor recognizes green leadership in a variety of areas. These include bringing green and sustainable building practices to the mainstream; direct impact on the number of green homes constructed; educational and marketing efforts; and grassroots activities that aim to help transform the home building industry.

“Pardee Homes was among the first production homebuilders to see the need and the value of a green building program, and its achievements in this regard now span more than a decade,” said Eric Borsting, Chair of NAHB’s Green Building Subcommittee.  “They have found a niche in their markets and we commend them for helping to further green while educating the consumer on the value green offers.”

Since 1998, Pardee Homes has built new homes that exceed prevailing codes for energy efficiency. It has steadily incorporated additional green and sustainable measures in its new homes, particularly with its award-winning LivingSmart® program, introduced in 2001 in San Diego. In 2009, Pardee Homes made a company-wide commitment to building LivingSmart homes.

LivingSmart meets or exceeds local, state and national standards for green home building. It offers more than 30 included and optional green features, materials and systems that boost energy efficiency, save water, improve indoor air quality and encourage material conservation and the use of recycled or sustainable resources in new homes.

McGee said that LivingSmart is key to Pardee’s design and construction quality, and that it reinforces progressive approaches to community planning and development. Notable in many Pardee master plans, this translates to preserved trees and open space, habitat restoration and indigenous, drought tolerant landscaping. Proximity to employment, transit, schools and recreation strengthens smart growth principles in such communities as Pacific Highlands Ranch in San Diego, Fair Oaks Ranch in Los Angeles County and Nevada Trails in Las Vegas.
