Ready for Some Football? Host a Homegate in Your New Home
There’s an alternative to navigating stadium crowds to watch your favorite teams. Homegating is the new tailgating, letting you take in the action without ever leaving home. Here’s how to plan a winning homegate this fall.
What’s football without food?
Fall means football, and let’s face it: watching a football game isn’t complete without food. Homegating in a Pardee home makes meal prep and serving easy. And since you don’t have to store food in coolers, you can skip the packing and stress of traditional tailgates.
Plan a menu that factors in your fans’ favorites (and any food restrictions). Include some conventional tailgate fare, like crockpot chili con queso and chunky guacamole. But, with a full Pardee kitchen to leverage, you can amp up the options and still enjoy the game by using your fridge or freezer to make things ahead of kickoff. Finger foods like chicken salad caprese and sausage pinwheels are grazing-friendly, and require little day-of kitchen time.
Have multiple viewing areas.
Even the die-hard “pacers” in your football crowd eventually will want a comfy place to sit. The beauty of a homegate is you can have multiple areas to watch the action, both inside and outside the house. Convert Pardee Homes’ outdoor living areas into spacious game-day viewing centered around the television (and near the grill!).
Add some team spirit by setting up tents and chairs in your team colors in the yard. Inside, use oversized floor pillows in team colors and pull out your stadium blankets to use as throws on couches.
Get extra points for creativity.
Take your creativity into overtime on the food tables, too. Set up concession stands for food and drinks that are within easy access to your viewing areas. Instead of standard napkins, how about placing yellow and red paper napkins in matching plastic cups, labeled “penalty flags” and “challenge flags,” respectively? Make a DIY “water break” sign for your water cooler. Paint mason jars in team colors, to use for plastic utensils and straws. Let your imagination run wild!
Provide halftime entertainment.
Who needs a marching band? Create your own halftime entertainment with backyard games suited for the fall. Pardee outdoor living areas and backyards are the perfect place to work off some game day calories. Try a cornhole challenge or game of horseshoes. For a less active option, create your own bingo game.
