Walking for the MS Cure

Heart. Commitment. Teamwork. That only begins to describe it. For eight years now, Pardee Homes has participated in the 3-day, 50-mile MS Challenge Walk, and raised more than $19,000 this year toward a cure for multiple sclerosis.

The 2011 MS Challenge Walk raised close to $1 million, with Pardee Homes ranking as “Top Corporate Team”. Our President and CEO Mike McGee wasn’t about to miss out on this event and was there to cheer on the team, and to proudly accepted recognition from the MS Society on behalf of Pardee Homes for our donations of more than $315,000 over the past eight years.

Pardee Homes won a “Win for Others” Facebook challenge earlier this year that encouraged volunteer recognition, which earned us a day of volunteer service at the event of our choice, from Larry Burrows, Senior VP of Weyerhaeuser Wood Products and “Volunteer Champion” for the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund. We’re pretty sure Larry had a great time at the MS Walk, and we were inspired by his enthusiastic cheering for walkers as they climbed the final hill of the first day’s walk. Thank you, Larry, for sharing your time and for taking a few minutes to record this video:

Our team started fundraising well before the event, with a bake sale and bowling tournament supporting the effort. Co-workers, Pardee Homes retirees, friends and family, as well as companies and individuals that are friends of Pardee Homes, contributed to the cause. Besides being outstanding fundraisers—and walkers—Team Pardee sponsored the most popular rest stop, too. No doubt, having the popular California Quivers in the booth helped!

If you supported the effort in any way, by volunteering, donating, buying (and eating) our bake sale cookies, or offering an encouraging word somewhere along the way, Team Pardee says thank you. We couldn’t have done it without you.
