Building a Green Home: Sneak Peek
There’s a lot of talk these days about green building. We’ve been asking around and we’ve learned that while the concept sounds good, a lot of people aren’t sure what that really means—or why that might be important to them when they’re shopping for a new home. We decided it was time to give you a closer look behind the scenes, and inside the walls, to see what’s better about a green home.
Members of our Construction Department have agreed to go on camera to show you around LivingSmart Homes at Fair Oaks Ranch, which recently met the new Gold level criteria of the National Green Building Standard. (The NGBS was developed by the National Association of Home Builders Research Center and is intended to be a nationwide green building standard for residential construction.)
Up first, Pardee Homes Superintendent Mike Carrillo, on the construction process:
Pardee Homes started building green before it was cool. About 13 years ago. A lot of other homebuilders have followed suit, and that’s a good thing. Done right, a green home not only conserves natural resources in the way it is built and in the way the land is developed, but it also saves money for the homeowner through reduced energy consumption and lower utility bills. And done well, it doesn’t compromise on comfort or design.
Energy efficient. Beautiful. Awesome communities. Now that’s what we’re talking about.
