5 Ways to Prepare Your Home for House Guests

Company’s coming! Having guests stay with you is a great opportunity to create a more welcoming environment in your home. Aside from making sure everything is neat and clean before they arrive, there are a few things you can do to go the extra mile in helping your guests feel comfortable. Read on for five ways to prepare your home for house guests.
Set out plenty of towels and linens.
Place towels and washcloths on your guests’ bed so they’re ready to go. For blankets and pillows, it’s nice to give your guests more than enough options. Some people prefer firm pillows, while others prefer fluffy ones. Leave several pillows for them to choose from, plus extra blankets. It’s also a good idea to show them where the extra linens are stored, just in case they need more.
Make room for your guests.
Guest rooms can sometimes become a storage space for out-of-season clothing, exercise equipment or other random belongings. Before guests arrive, clear space for them by gathering items to store elsewhere while your guests are in town. Clutter-free spaces are just more welcoming. Also, be sure there’s enough room in the closet or dresser for your guests’ things. If you have one, setting out a luggage rack can be a nice touch.
Having a night stand or small table next to the guest bed gives them a place to set their smaller personal items, such as phones and glasses. Don’t forget a lamp so your guests aren’t stumbling around in the dark if they wake up in the middle of the night.
Welcome them with snacks.
A small gift basket filled with snacks and a little welcome note is a great way to greet your guests upon arrival. (Don’t forget to include the WiFi password in your note!) In the kitchen, show your guests where they can find even more food and snacks. If your guests are early risers and coffee drinkers, it’s also a good idea to show them where all the coffee supplies are. The more your guests can do for themselves, the more pleasant their stay will be for everyone.
Stock the bathroom with extra toiletries.
It goes without saying that you should give your guests’ bathroom a deep cleaning before they arrive. Then stock the bathroom with extra toiletries like toothpaste, new toothbrushes, shampoos, etc. Travel size toiletries can be displayed colorfully in a glass container on the countertop. If you and your guests will be sharing a bathroom, clear some counter space for their things. Another idea: Keep extra tissue and toilet paper visible so your guests aren’t searching for them.
