Celebrating National Hot Tea Month

Did you know that tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, following only water? Tea has a long and storied history, and it continues to grow in popularity today. People around the globe enjoy it for its health benefits, soothing properties and variety of flavors.

January is National Hot Tea Month, giving you the perfect excuse to escape the cooler temperatures with a warm cup of tea in your Pardee home. Here are a few ways you can celebrate this beloved beverage and enjoy Hot Tea Month.

Explore new flavors.
Black tea is most common, but there are a number of other types of tea you can try during Hot Tea Month. Green tea is known for its health benefits and may help lower cholesterol and prevent high blood pressure. Oolong tea is a traditional Chinese tea that pairs well with a variety of foods. White tea has a milder flavor and lower levels of caffeine. Herbal teas, which are made from dried herbs, fruits, flowers and spices, contain no caffeine and may help you sleep.

Use the right equipment.
Sure, you can grab a tea bag and heat up it up in a mug of water in the microwave. But if you want a more traditional experience — and the most flavorful tea — you might want to consider steeping loose-leaf tea. You’ll need just a few pieces of equipment: a tea infuser, a kettle and your favorite mug. To start, fill the infuser with the tea leaves. Heat some water in the kettle, place the infuser in the mug and pour the water over the tea. Let the tea steep for two to five minutes (depending on the type of tea), remove the infuser and enjoy!

Add a little sweetness.
Do you prefer your tea on the sweeter side? You have options. If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to refined sugar, you could try honey, agave nectar or molasses. Honey in particular contains powerful antioxidants that can reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer, and drinking tea with honey can help soothe a sore throat. Tip: When trying a new tea, take a sip before adding any sweeteners. You may discover you like it on its own.

Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize.
Part of the fun of being a tea drinker is using all the accessories that go along with it. From matching creamer and sugar sets to decorative spoons and cozies, these accessories can take your tea-sipping experience to the next level. They also make great gifts for the fellow tea lovers in your life.

Host a tea party.
Do you want to share your love of tea with your family and friends? Why not plan a tea party? The kitchens at Pardee homes are ideal for hosting your next get-together. Your friends can gather around your spacious kitchen island or relax in your comfortable living room as they sample a variety of teas. Don’t forget the snacks!
