Cleaning Hacks That Really Work

What do lemons, vinegar and dryer sheets have in common? They’re all household items, and they all make great cleaners. Roll up your sleeves and read on for some simple cleaning hacks that will help you get your home sparkling just in time for spring.

Vinegar window cleaner

Tackle your windows with an environmentally friendly blend; combine 50 percent white vinegar and 50 percent tap or distilled water in a spray bottle. For particularly pesky grime build-up, add a couple of drops of dish soap.

Microwave steam treatment

Say goodbye to scrubbing the microwave. Simply fill a bowl with one to two cups of water, two tablespoons of white vinegar and a few drops of essential oil. Zap it in the microwave for five minutes, and then wipe down with a damp towel.

Baking soda sink scrubber

Baking soda is great for brightening surfaces. Combine it with citrus fruit and you’ve got the perfect natural scrubber. Take half a lime or lemon, dip it into baking soda and scrub away at any built-up grime or stains in the sink.

Vinegar showerhead cleaner

Sometimes even showerheads need a shower. Pour white vinegar into a plastic bag, wrap it around the shower head, and tie it into place. Leave it overnight, then run the shower in the morning to flush out any backed-up mineral deposits.

Lemon water stain remover

When life gives you lemons, don’t just make lemonade–make water stains go away, too! Use half of a lemon to clean water stains from stainless steel tap and sink fixtures. It’s natural, easy and will also make the room smell citrusy fresh.

Dryer sheet glass cleaner

Soap scum building up on your shower doors? Take a dryer sheet, sprinkle a few drops of water on it and scrub away at your glass shower doors to get them shining again.
