Holiday House Guests
The holidays are finally here, and for many, that means divine decorations, festive soirees and house guests arriving from afar. Make family and friends feel welcome with hospitality that is merry and bright (but not back- or bank-breaking!). Here are a few helpful tips to make your home inviting – even inspired – this holiday season.
‘Tis the season to declutter.
With a few extra people in your home, you are going to want all of the extra space you can get. Remove any obstructive furniture from all common areas. Get rid of old newspapers, magazines and mail that might be lying around, and use storage bins to temporarily move extra bulky items to an attic or basement.
Make a list, and check it twice.
Stock up on essentials. Make a quick trip to the store to grab toiletries like toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, mouthwash, razors or other items a guest might need. Include fragrant soaps and travel-size bath products.
Baby, it’s cold outside.
Make your guestroom extra cozy with clean linens, plush blankets and comfy pillows. A small basket with a book or magazine, snacks and a water bottle tucked inside is a thoughtful touch to make guests feel special. Earn bonus points by including your Wi-Fi password and an extra phone charger, too.
Home, child-proof home.
If babies or small toddlers will be visiting, it is important to baby-proof your house. Make sure things like cleaning products and knives are locked away or out of reach. Cover all electrical outlets, and have baby gates on hand.
Comfort (food) and joy.
Preparing a few meals before guests arrive will save you a lot of time and energy. You won’t have to cook every time someone is hungry; guests will be able to heat up meals whenever they want. Have on hand favorite staples like fruit, energy bars, sandwich fixings and a selection of coffees and teas.
Deck the halls.
Amp up the holiday cheer with festive home décor. Go for simple greenery or an elaborate wonderland. Whatever you choose, your guests will appreciate your holiday details.
Seek silent nights.
With so much hustle and bustle, the holidays can feel overwhelming. Remember that this is a time to celebrate the season with friends and family. Take time to relax. Enjoy conversation, embrace holiday festivities and be thankful for your blessings.
