How to Design an Exercise Room
Senterra Plan 3 | Inland Empire | Pardee Homes
Looking for an easier way to stick to a regular routine and reach your fitness goals? Do you want your own space for more privacy and for working out at your own pace? Here are a few design ideas to help you create an exercise room in your home.
First, the floor.
Working out on tile or hardwood can be rough on the ol’ joints. If your room is not carpeted, consider covering it with interlocking foam flooring pads or using foam-backed carpet pieces. Plus, adding pads can protect existing flooring from friction when using equipment like a weight bench or a treadmill.
Determine your goals.
If yoga is your primary focus, you’ll need a mat, blocks and a soothing space with enough room for your Proud Warrior. Prefer upbeat, energetic routines like Zumba or a strengthening routine with free weights? Shop around for dumbbells and other vital equipment.
Set the mood with color.
Stimulating hues like cherry reds, cheery yellows and punchy oranges can help energize you during Zumba or a kickboxing workout. Set the stage for yoga, tai chi or meditation with soothing tones like lavender, aquamarine or cool greens, which promote calmness, serenity and a clear mind.
Incorporate as much natural light as possible.
Use pale sheers or blinds on your windows. Hang a mirror to reflect the light and brighten up the room. Mirrors are also handy to help you on your fitness journey when you need to check and correct your form.
Store your stuff.
Metal storage shelves or prefabricated cabinets are great for tucking away towels, yoga mats, exercise balls, weightlifting gloves and resistance bands.
Don’t overlook convenience.
If you’re purchasing cardio equipment, you may want to get something to keep you engaged while you’re on the elliptical, whether it’s a speaker system for motivating tunes or a television.
You might also consider a small refrigerator for cool water, sports drinks and ice packs.
