Family-Friendly Vacations in Las Vegas

Las Vegas isn’t just for adults – it’s a great place to raise a family, too. At Pardee Homes, you can find the perfect home for your family at any stage. One of the best perks of living in Las Vegas is the number of family-friendly vacation destinations nearby. Whether you’re looking for a quick day trip or a longer family vacation, you’ll find plenty of options near your new home. Here are a few suggestions for some family-friendly activities in Las Vegas.

The Lion Habitat Ranch
Originally established as a sanctuary for the lions from the now-closed lion habitat at the MGM Grand casino, the Lion Habitat Ranch is home to nearly 40 lions, as well as ostriches, emus and macaws. One of its most famous inhabitants is Ozzie, a 5-year-old giraffe that paints (seriously). Located about 20 miles south of Las Vegas in Henderson, the Lion Habitat Ranch is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday through Monday (beginning Oct. 20, it’s open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday through Monday). Don’t forget to take advantage of the local resident discount!

Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas
If you’re looking to cool off, Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas is the place to go. This popular water park will appeal to every member of your family. Teenagers will love the Tornado, a thrilling funnel water slide that simulates a natural storm, while your youngest family members will have a blast at Paradise Falls, a multilevel aquatic playground. Special events include dive-in movies, children’s story time and foam parties. Both day passes and season passes are available; operating hours vary by month.

Springs Preserve
Want to keep your kids’ brains as busy as their bodies? Learning opportunities abound at the Springs Preserve. This 180-acre cultural and educational attraction is designed to celebrate the history of Las Vegas. Learn about the city’s early days at the Nevada State Museum, stroll through a recreated historical street in the Boomtown 1905 exhibit, or discover the area’s natural beauty through the butterfly habit and botanical garden. Located in the heart of Las Vegas, the Springs Preserve is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is known as an engineering marvel for good reason. The massive 726-foot-tall concrete arch-gravity dam holds back the powerful Colorado River and generates enough hydroelectric power to serve 1.3 million people annually. Located about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas, the Hoover Dam is a fun day trip destination for the entire family. You can check out educational exhibits and access the observation deck at the Visitor Center, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Note: The dam tour is only open to visitors 8 years old and older, but guests of all ages are welcome to tour the Powerplant.

The Grand Canyon
Talk about the ultimate road trip. Located less than 130 miles from Las Vegas, Grand Canyon National Park is the perfect family-friendly vacation destination. More than six million people visit the Grand Canyon each year. In addition to awe-inspiring views, the Grand Canyon is home to about 90 species of mammals, 450 species of birds, 50 species of reptiles and 10 species of amphibians. Tip: Before you head out, download the Trip Planner produced by the National Park Service for helpful information on day hikes, campsites, tours and more.
